About the Beach

Ocean

Boardwalk

Dunes

The beach is only a short walk from the condo.  A boardwalk takes you from the condo directly to the beach, so your feet never touch the sand until you reach the beach.

The non-commercial atmosphere of Harbor Island provides opportunity to see the beach in it's natural state.   When the tide is out, it is possible to spend several hours looking for shells.  There is an abundance of hermit crabs, as well as starfish, sand dollars and horse shoe crabs.

Beach

Schools of dolphins can be seen from the beach and shrimp boats can be seen in the distance.

Loggerhead sea turtles build nests and lay their eggs on Harbor Island's beach each year.  Their nests are closely monitored and are marked with flags.  Lights are prohibited on the beach at night from May through October to allow the turtles to safely reach the ocean when they hatch.

Beaches in more commercial areas are no comparison to Harbor Island's beach.   No more dressing your children in color-coordinated swimsuits and watching them with binoculars!
